Angels Baseball and The Literacy Project (TLP) are proud to present the Fifth Annual “Readers In The Outfield.” This special event celebrates 100 recent TLP graduates at the exclusive Lexus Diamond Club at Angel Stadium along with the Angels alumni, Strike Force Girls, executives and our generous sponsors.
Celebrate the accomplishments of our amazing kids and learn the profound impact that our program has had on their lives. Did you know that students who do not read proficiently by the third grade are four times more likely to drop out of school? Two thirds of students who do not read proficiently by the fourth grade will end up on welfare or in prison and Anaheim has the sixth highest rate of illiteracy in the country. These are just some of the staggering statistics that, like it or not, touch all of us directly or indirectly.
Your sponsorship will not only fund this special afternoon but, more importantly, will help us to reach our goal of adding three more schools and championing 200 more second graders in Orange County. Since 2009, The Literacy Project has already taught over 7,000 second graders to read.
A special thank you to Angels Baseball for sponsoring this event. It enables 100% of your donation to fund students and reach our goal.
After being a part of this special event for the last 4 years, The Literacy Project children will have a special place in my heart forever.
- Clyde Wright, Former Angels Pitcher
It was one of the best charity, kid, goodwill functions I’ve been a part of in my 13 years as one of the Angels Alumni Ambassadors.
- Bobby Grich, Former Angels Second Baseman
Education is power. It will allow you to be whomever you want to be and do whatever you want to do. Thank you to the Angels and The Literacy Project for continuing to educate children through this event.
