Cheers for Literacy
Location: The Winery, Newport Beach, CA

“Cheers For Literacy” is our highly anticipated bar battle event! Community leaders battle it out to see which team can earn the most cash tips during their time at the bar. All of the cash tips are raised to help The Literacy Project continue helping students in Southern California. Two teams are pitted against each other, putting their cocktail prowess to the test! The teams create their very own literacy-themed signature cocktails, which adds to the intense competition! We welcome everyone and the event is at no charge. All proceeds benefit The Literacy Project.

ANGELS BASEBALL PRESENTS “READERS IN THE OUTFIELD”
April 14, 2018
Diamond Club at Angel Stadium

It’s not every day that kids get to hang out with Angels Stadium with legendary baseball players, but that exactly what The Literacy Project’s student graduates do at the “Readers In The Outfield” event hosted by Angels Baseball each year. Second grade graduates and their Master Teachers show off their literacy skills by playing interactive reading games with Angels alumni baseball players, sponsors and community leaders. As a collaborative effort to promote the importance of literacy, Angels Baseball Chairman Dennis Kuhl and the Angels Alumni treat TLP’s graduates to a memorable afternoon of lunch, games, raffle prizes and four tickets to a future Angel game for their families. The students listen to inspirational literacy stories from Angels Alumni about the importance of reading and becoming successful literate adults.

What Dreams are Made Of
September 27, 2018
Location: Newport Beach Country Club

Our Annual “What Dreams Are Made Of” Gala is an exciting, inspiring and purpose-driven evening featuring special guest speakers, a live auction, and a program showcasing how our organization helps thousands of illiterate Southern California students learn to read. Accompanied by their adult role models, we choose three students from The Literacy Project’s reading program to highlight the event and share their future dreams of being successful literate adults. This elegant evening brings together philanthropists, literacy experts and passionate supporters of education to raise funds to provide The Literacy Project’s proprietary 30-hour reading program at “no cost” to struggling readers in elementary school classrooms throughout Southern California.
