Sue’s interest in literacy dates to her early college education when her emphasis was on elementary teaching. Once committed to becoming a school counselor, she was selected by CSUF’s Human Services Department to supervise a three-year state-funded counseling program with at-risk children conducted throughout Westminster School District’s K-8 schools. In 1988, she was recognized by the California Congress of the Parents, Teacher and Students, Inc. with the Honorary Service Award for her outstanding service to children and youth.

Before taking the helm of LPF, Sue founded OC Public Relations (OCPR) in 1996 which specializes in providing nonprofit organizations with strategic media relations and cause marketing services. In 2000, she recognized a countywide need for one comprehensive master calendar of charity events to serve OC’s nonprofit organizations and founded the “Master Calendar of Orange County” in Orange Coast magazine. The concept, a first of its kind both in print and online, served 26 major cities nationwide and earned her the 2001 Business Woman of Distinction Award from the American Business Women’s Association.

Sue Tucker's lifetime interests have focused on serving school-age, at-risk children and literacy issues. Today she spearheads the charge to bring the gift of literacy to struggling readers with the Literacy Project Foundation's Get Set Read! literacy products.
